Nashville Inner City Ministry (NICM) stands as a leader among nonprofit organizations. Below are four reasons why NICM excels in helping urban youth avoid a life of crime:
• Transportation: Our operation is very mobile. Once the need is identified and a solution is found, we can transport the person, family, or community to the solution.
• Empowerment: We reach out not only to those who have the ability to overachieve, but we also serve the one who underachieves. Those who underachieve are usually left behind and kicked out of our society. Our ministry is committed to the empowerment of those who are most likely to be left behind and left out.
• Assistance: In a nine month period, our staff made over 2,000 visits encouraging families and identifying needs. During this time, 826 bags of groceries were delivered to families.
• Mentoring: This is done by reaching out to the disenfranchised and empowering them with the assurance that they have the ability to set and achieve goals once thought unreachable. We help at risk youth to understand they have the God-given ability and permission to forgive those who have wronged them and focus on happiness rather than revenge. This demonstrates in real-life situations that their community and background does not have to determine their future or their self image.
